Education Above All (EAA) is a foundation established in 2012 by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. Its aim is to build a global movement that contributes to human, social and economic development through the provision of quality education. With a particular focus on those affected by poverty, conflict and disaster, it champions the needs of children, youth and women to empower them to become active members of their communities.
EAA believes that quality education is the most effective means of poverty reduction, generating economic growth, and creating peaceful and just societies. It is a fundamental right for all children and an essential condition to achieving the SDGs. In addition to providing access to education for children and youth around the world, we also advocate to safeguard inclusive and quality education for all.
Its work with more than 83 partners worldwide provides innovative interventions in education and protects the right to education for all. Its global programs focus on the hardest to reach, most marginalized children and youth.

Project: Education For All Out of School Children in Zanzibar
Ramadan is a time for reflection and charity. Lend a helping hand & give disadvantaged children access to opportunities that will help change their lives.
The goal of this 3-year project is to improve equitable access to, and retention in quality primary education for 35,732 OOSC (out of school children) in Zanzibar. Moreover, the project aims to reinforce the Government of Zanzibar’s attempt to achieve universal primary education and align with the ZEDP II, which seeks to boost access amongst the most disadvantaged children.
Below are some of the barriers to education faced by these children and some of the solutions that this project in Zanzibar will address to provide quality education for 35,732 Out of School children:
Barriers:
- Low levels of community support
- Low parental engagement
- Poverty
- Inadequate school infrastructure
- Insufficient gender-sensitive WASH facilities
- Harmful cultural practices and social norms
- Gender stereotypes
- Discrimination of children with disabilities or education quality
- Lack of adequately trained teachers
- Lack of monitoring and data systems
Solutions:
- Behavior change and community mobilization campaigns
- Cash transfers for most vulnerable OOSC households
- Community-initiated classroom construction
- Construction/rehabilitation of WASH facilities
- Promotion of menstrual hygiene management
- Provision of teaching and learning materials
- Creation of child-friendly classrooms
- Provision of psychosocial support, mentoring, and life skills
- In-service teacher training
- Capacity building in planning and monitoring
